Units

Connecticut's Air National Guard operates from Bradley Air National Guard Base at Bradley Airport and an Air Station in Orange.

The two locations host units officially named the 103rd Airlift Wing and 103rd Air Control Squadron, which are more commonly known as the "Flying Yankees" and "Yankee Watch."

The CTANG's overall mission is to train, organize, and equip personnel to provide an operationally-ready component of the militia to:

  • Deploy and employ as directed in support of national objectives
  • Support the office of the governor and provide resources in emergencies
  • Participate proactively in programs benefiting the community and its members

103rd OPERATIONS GROUP

The 103rd Operations Group, comprised of the 118th Airlift Squadron and 103rd Operations Support Squadron, performs the C-130H tactical airlift mission. The aircraft is capable of operating from rough, dirt strips and is the prime transport for airdropping troops and equipment into hostile areas. The C-130H fulfills a wide range of operational missions in both peace and war situations, including airlift support, aeromedical missions, and natural disaster relief missions.

103rd MAINTENANCE GROUP

The 103rd Maintenance Group, comprised of the 103rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, 103rd Maintenance Squadron, and 103rd Maintenance Operations Flight, ensures every component of the C-130H aircraft is maintained to the most exacting standards. These experts ensure that the aircraft in their care are ready to fly at a moment's notice so that aircrews can safely and effectively complete their mission.

103rd MISSION SUPPORT GROUP

The 103rd Mission Support Group provides diversified support for the wing. The group provides overall command and staff management to the 103rd Civil Engineer Squadron, 103rd Communications Flight, 103rd Force Support Squadron, 103rd Logistics Readiness Squadron and 103rd Security Forces Squadron. Day to day, they maintain and continually improve base infrastructure, provide security, and provide critical cargo and passenger processing capabilities to the wing's C-130H tactical airlift mission.

WING STAFF AGENCIES

The 103rd Airlift Wing Staff Agencies provide command management and a wide variety of services to almost everyone on base. The agencies working directly for the wing commander, vice wing commander and command chief include: the Chaplain staff, Comptroller, Command Post, Environmental, Equal Opportunity, Inspector General, JAG, Psychological Health, Public Affairs, and Safety.

103rd AIR CONTROL SQUADRON

The 103rd Air Control Squadron provides theater command with air battle management, radar surveillance, air space control, and long haul communication capabilities to plan and execute combined air operations, air superiority and air strike ground attack operations, and provides state authorities with a dedicated force ready to react to local and national emergencies.

103rd MEDICAL GROUP

The 103rd Medical Group, comprised of Bio-Environmental, Public Health, Dental, and Nursing Services, ensures medically fit forces, provides expeditionary medics, and improves the health of all they serve to meet the Nation's needs. The 103rd MDG strives to provide reliable access to safe, quality care, promoting positive patient experiences and outcomes.
